We realize that sometimes it’s difficult to know if your pet’s situation is an emergency. Below are some common signs of emergency situations. If your pet is suffering from any of these, seek veterinary medical attention immediately.
Common Signs of a Pet Emergency
- Bleeding that does not stop
- Bloated, distended, swollen or painful abdomen
- Dilated pupils
- Difficulty breathing
- Falls, hit-by-cars, large wounds, broken bones
- Inability to deliver puppies or kittens
- Inability to urinate or defecate
- Inflammation, swelling or other irritation to the eye
- Ingestion of dangerous foods, poison, plants, bones or other materials
- Lameness
- Loss of balance or consciousness
- Pain
- Penetrating wounds (especially in the chest or abdomen)
- Seizures
- Severe hives or itching
- Staggering, stumbling, head-tilted, sudden blindness
- Vomiting or diarrhea with blood
What to Do if You have a Pet Emergency
If you suspect that your pet has ingested food, medication, plants, cleaning supplies or other dangerous products, please immediately call your primary care veterinarian or contact your closest MedVet hospital.
