The Emergency and Critical Care department at MedVet knows that pets aren’t like family, they are family. That is why the majority of our hospitals offer 24-hour emergency and critical care, every day of the year.

Our expert emergency and critical care teams are comprised of highly trained emergency veterinarians and an expert support staff who combine their knowledge and skill to treat pets facing even the most challenging medical emergencies.

In addition to providing excellent care, we prioritize communication and collaboration between our clients, primary care veterinarians, and our in-house specialty services to ensure that each patient has a treatment plan that is best for their individual health needs.

What makes MedVet emergency services even more unique is the close working relationship of our emergency doctors and our veterinary specialists. Our entire ER team is supported 24/7 by all specialty services for patients that require the most intensive treatment plans and nursing care. At any time, on any day or night, our emergency doctors are able to consult with a MedVet board-certified surgeon, internist, cardiologist, dermatologist, radiologist, medical or radiation oncologist, ophthalmologist, or neurologist to determine the best care for your pet.

Emergency Triage

If your pet has a medical emergency, we suggest that you contact your primary veterinarian first. If they are unavailable, then call us so we can be ready to help immediately upon your arrival. If there’s no time to consult with your primary veterinarian or call ahead to us, by all means, please bring your pet in immediately.

The Emergency department at MedVet is much like that of a human hospital. Upon arrival, our medical teams immediately assess each patient’s symptoms, with the most critical patients being seen  first. Urgent, but stable, patients will be seen as quickly as possible.

We Communicate With Your Vet

We inform your family vet about your pet’s condition and treatment by providing copies of all medical records, laboratory findings, and treatment plans within 24 hours of your pet’s visit to MedVet. You and your vet will be regularly involved in helping to direct the ongoing care of your pet, whether at MedVet or by transfer back to your referring veterinarian’s clinic.
